How It All Began

Durecia Moorer is an entrepreneur, international speaker, and consultant. At ABCD & Company, she has oversight of business development, marketing strategy, and strategic partnerships. Branded as “the people magnet,” Moorer’s ability to leverage resources and garner profitable, mutually beneficial relationships has placed her among the echelons of prominent leaders and promoted the quantum growth of ABCD & Company. She learned about entrepreneurship by watching her uncles while growing up. She is the first female entrepreneur in her family.

The ABCD in the company name represents the owners Amber, Brittany, Corey, and Durecia. They are four friends who met and graduated from Howard University, and decided to go into business together. The four friends “beta” tested their working relationship in the church. After seeing how well they worked together, they developed a plan and launched ABCD & Company.

Eight years later, they have a thriving business whose ultimate goal is to provide the services their clients need. While they initially started with management consulting, they realized what they were actually providing was stakeholder engagement.

Pivoting Your Business & Covid19

Durecia and her partners experienced what most business owners did when the Covid19 pandemic hit the United States. While promoting an event out-of-state for a client, the city was put on immediate shutdown due to the growing number of infections.

Although ABCD & Company managed to pull off the event successfully, they quickly realized they needed to pivot their business to virtual services. Live events were their bread and butter so they knew they needed to pivot how they provided their services.

“Do not be afraid to do things differently”, said Durecia when asked about overcoming this challenge.

“You have to be able to put the best and brightest in the room in order to build your brand” ~ Durecia Moorer.

For businesses that may be struggling during Covid19, Durecia would advise them to partner with other companies outside of their scope of work. Oftentimes, small business owners can be fearful and don’t necessarily think outside of the box.

Final Thoughts

In her final words, Durecia admitted that ABCD & Company tried to be the big company too early. She and her partners now understand that there is nothing wrong with being the baby in the industry. She advises all up and coming businesses to find a mentor and listen to them!

“Be comfortable with being the new kid on the block” ~ Durecia Moorer.

When it’s time to scale your business, bring in people to handle the smaller tasks, leaving you to focus on continued growth.
