A Passion for Teaching
Adrienne has always had a passion for teaching. All of her grandparents are educators, and she clearly inherited the love for teaching people how to understand difficult concepts. When she attended college, she initially sought a Music Education major. However, she realized that she interested in the process of creating courses, and graduated with an English degree.
She is a firm believer that courses get a bad reputation because most entrepreneurs are not writers. The main goal of her business is to help her clients fix issues that cause people to be afraid of taking courses.
The 9-5 & Entrepreneurship
Adrienne is a course creation expert, and has been working for Salesforce for several years writing courses for their sales team. She loves working for the company because they foster a “bring your whole self to work” environment in which she has been able to find true work-life balance.
Even though she intends to continue working her day job, Adrienne knew she wanted to extend her expertise by helping other people. She also needed a distraction from Covid19, which led her to start her business. While balancing both is challenging, it is also very rewarding.
A Budding Entrepreneur
Before she could launch her business, Adrienne knew she had to get clear on what service should provide. This included conducting market research to determine what her potential clients needed, and what they were willing to pay for. Understanding their specific pain points helped Adrienne create a product that was not only valuable but profitable for her business.
While the market research was an important step, Adrienne also had to get through some mental blocks about become a female solopreneur. After taking a course given by Rachel Rodgers in 2017, she began to understand her worth and the contributions she could make to society.
Final Thoughts
In growing her business, Adrienne realized she first needed to invest in herself. She joined a membership group that not only gave her access to people from whom she could pitch her ideas, but a group with like-minded women with similar goals. Once she had a clear idea of her demographic, she launched her business.
Her biggest success thus far was hosting a small group intensive workshop about course creation, and meeting people around the world. “I love seeing light bulbs turn on in my student’s head”, said Adrienne.
When she’s not working, you can find her weight lifting, playing cello, or doing some paper crafting. She loves to watch good TV and talk about all things tech.
In her final thoughts, Adrienne shared a piece of advise to everyone starting their own business. “Get clear on your path and stay focused. Also, shiny object syndrome is real and will derail what you want for your life and your business”.
