Let’s Talk About Stress, Baby!

In honor of Mental Health Awareness this month, I decided to shed some light on a topic that many consider to be taboo. Stress. Anxiety. Depression. While often regulated to a single occurrence, we are now seeing the large scale impact throughout society.

The financial and real estate markets are spiraling.

Inflation is out of control.

And many of us are still homeschooling our children and taking on the responsibility of caring for our parents.

When and how to we begin to process it all and put our lives back together.

The Stigma of Mental Health

These issues can (and have) caused a tremendous amount of stress, anxiety, and depression in our society. Couple with a global pandemic, it’s not hard to understand what the world is dealing with.

For this discussion, I invited two of my favorite people, Pam Covarrubias, owner of Spread Ideas Move People, and Dianne Jackson, Author, and Founder of 4EverFamilies to share their thoughts about mental health. We touched on stress and anxiety, how it relates to operating a business, and how it can be managed.

If you have ever felt overwhelmed, anxious, or worried as an entrepreneur or in any facet of your life, this is must watch tv! We aimed the overdue “spotlight” on this important topic that affects us all.

Each of us shared where our current anxiety stems from, and while the sources were uniquely different, they were associated with fear of the unknown.

Pam focused on the current state of the stock market, and the freefall of the financial market. She is concerned about where society is headed, however, she continues to remain optimistic. “Worrying takes you to something that hasn’t happened yet.”, says Pam.

For Dianne, the anxiety is rooted to be accepted and seen as a newly published author. With her book set to release on June 10, 2022, Dianne is hoping for the support of her community.

Finding A Solution to Overcome Stress

When it comes to dealing with stress and anxiety, we each have remedies that work for us. For Dianne, it is going back to the source and leaning on her faith. “Worrying is egotistical!”, says Dianne.

As an EFT practitioner, Pam uses a technique called “tapping” which helps to regulate the nervous system. During stressful times, our bodies fight or flight response is triggered. Tapping helps Pam ground herself so she can focus on what her body is saying it needs.

If we are ever going to eliminate the stigma often associated with mental health, we must have open and honest discussions.
